Duane R. Baker, DVM

Dr. Baker was born and raised near Elkton, Michigan.  He grew up on the family dairy farm where the care and health of animals spurred interest in veterinary medicine.  He entered Michigan State University in 1959 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963.  The same year he married Penny (Spaeth).  He credits and thanks her for the encouragement and support to pursue and accomplish a dream, to become a veterinarian.  In 1967 he graduated from MSU as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.  They moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania and practiced 2 years before returning to Michigan where they purchased the Paw Paw Veterinary Clinic in December 1969.  They were blessed with 4 children, son Andy, and daughters Amy, Ann Marie, and Abby.  Dr. Baker has had the pleasure and enjoyment of working with family members.  His wife Penny, with her many skills, including being an RN, helped immensely in the office.  Their son, Andrew Baker, DVM and daughter in-law, Marianne Leduc-Baker, DVM both earned their degrees at MSU (1992) and practiced at the Paw Paw Veterinary Clinic.  (They later built and currently practice at the Gobles and Bangor Veterinary Clinics).  The past 11 years, their daughter Ann Marie Baker-Brusach, DVM (MSU 1995) has joined and practiced with him at the clinic.  The future is bright.  Now in his 40th year of practice he thanks all who have been so helpful, understanding and supportive, this great community, clients, fellow veterinarians, staff members present and past, family, and especially Penny.
